What This Trip Offers

The aim of this project is to provide assistance to the Grenada SPCA in Georgia, Grenada. The SPCA is a well-established, well organised, not-for-profit animal clinic with excellent facilities in an idyllic Caribbean setting. Their main aim is to provide a centre for neutering and affordable veterinary care. As well as the main clinic in St Georges, there is a mobile clinic which takes volunteers to various places around the island. The team will mainly be neutering dogs and cats, there is a long waiting list for neutering ops, so expect to be fairly busy. They may also be required to provide treatment for presented animals if the need arises.

The hospital is based in St Georges, the islands capital. It is walking distance from town and 10 mins drive from the beach. There is a car available for private use, (acquiring a Grenadian temporary driving license is quick and cheap to do – requirement to show your foreign licence at the local police station only.) It is a safe island with very welcoming people and beautiful beaches with great diving and also inland rainforests to explore. It is easy to self-cater or explore the restaurants (from basic to international celebrity status) and there is a good night life.
There is a clean but basic apartment above the hospital with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, sitting room with TV and air-con for use by volunteers.
The team may also spend some time in Cariacou, where there is a beach cottage with 2 bedrooms and can sleep 3-4.

You must be prepared to share a room with WVS volunteers if necessary.

Volunteers will need to contact the company directly to clarify that veterinary work will be involved in the trip.

Health

Please check with your local doctor or travel clinic for details of which vaccinations are required for travel in this area . More information can be found at www.netdoctor.co.uk/travel, just click on the "Country Guide". You may need to allow several weeks before travel in order for immunisations to be effective so don't leave this to the last minute.
