Gaining Surgical Experience
The WVS emphasis is on sustainability, education and animal welfare and as such we are perfectly in tune with the ethos of the WVS objectives. Whilst working with WVS teams we always objectively assess the benefit of our participation to ensure that our volunteers not only gain the valuable experience and skills they seek, but also that they in turn, help the animals which depend on them.
We strive to create opportunities for veterinary trained volunteers to gain surgical experience of working in the field whilst promoting the idealism and value of being involved with charitable endeavours. Raising awareness for WVS and their associated charities is a big part of what we do, but we are focused on delivering unique experience to our volunteers that will set them up for fulfilling careers ahead.
Our programmes vary and are tailored for volunteers depending on your stage of experience, budget and the species with which you want to work. We are acutely focused on ensuring we go about delivering volunteer expectations, whilst making sure no feral animals are exposed to any increased risk of being treated by less experienced colleagues. The key to our success is making sure volunteers can gain the necessary experience in a safe and supervised way. Our maximum ratio of one experienced vet to two new graduates/students is a standard policy with often one to one tuition being delivered. All our vets are highly trained and skilled professionals, registered with the RCVS and have a minimum of five years clinical experience.
